Global Tech Outage Impacts Multiple Industries

Airlines Cancel Flights, 911 Systems Down

A global tech outage that has been disrupting operations in multiple industries on Friday, including airlines and emergency services. Around 4,295 flights globally, or 39% of all scheduled services, have been canceled so far today, according to aviation data from FlightAware. In Alaska, many 911 and non-emergency call centers were impacted by the global IT outage, but systems in the state were back to normal today.

Tech Firms Implicated

The outage has been linked to an issue at global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike and Microsoft, although it is unclear if the two incidents are related. A Microsoft spokesperson said the company was "investigating an issue that is affecting some customers" but did not provide further details.

The global outage has also impacted a number of companies and government agencies in Australia. The Australian Taxation Office, the Department of Home Affairs, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation were among the organizations affected.
