Russia Ukraine War Russian Forces Attack Ukraines Bryansk Region Killing 1

Russia-Ukraine war: Russian forces attack Ukraine's Bryansk region, killing 1

Russian forces shelled Ukraine's Bryansk region on Thursday, killing one person and injuring another, local authorities said, as Moscow's military campaign grinds into its second year.

Local governor Aleksandr Bogomaz said the strike targeted the village of Suzemka in the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine. He said a 72-year-old man was killed and a 67-year-old woman was injured. The woman was taken to a hospital for medical attention.

The attack came as Russia continues its offensive in eastern Ukraine, where intense fighting has been reported in recent weeks. The Ukrainian military has said it is holding its ground and inflicting heavy losses on Russian forces.

The Bryansk region has been repeatedly targeted by Russian shelling since the start of the war, with local authorities reporting a number of civilian casualties. In April 2022, at least three people were killed and four others were injured in a Russian strike on the town of Klintsy.

The attack on Bryansk is a reminder of the ongoing human cost of the war, which has now entered its second year. The United Nations estimates that at least 8,000 civilians have been killed and more than 13 million others have been displaced since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
