San Marino No Longer The Worlds Worst Team

San Marino No Longer the World's Worst Team

A New Low in International Football

For years, San Marino has languished at the bottom of the FIFA World Rankings, a symbol of international football's minnows. But now, a new team has taken their place as the world's worst.

That team is Gibraltar, a tiny British overseas territory with a population of just 34,000. Gibraltar has only been a member of FIFA since 2016, but they have quickly established themselves as the laughing stock of international football.

A Dismal Record

Gibraltar's record is truly abysmal. They have lost all but three of their 25 international matches, conceding a staggering 121 goals in the process.

Their most recent defeat was a 10-0 thrashing at the hands of Belgium. It was the heaviest defeat in Gibraltar's history, and it left them firmly rooted at the bottom of the FIFA rankings.

What's Gone Wrong?

There are a number of reasons why Gibraltar has struggled so badly at international level.

  • Lack of experience: Gibraltar is a small country with a limited pool of players to choose from. Many of their players are part-timers, and they simply do not have the experience or quality to compete at international level.
  • Poor coaching: Gibraltar has also been hampered by poor coaching. Their current manager, Julio Ribas, has a limited track record of success, and he has been unable to get the best out of his players.
  • Lack of funding: Gibraltar is a poor country, and they do not have the resources to invest in their football team. This has made it difficult for them to attract top players and coaches.

It is unlikely that Gibraltar will improve their FIFA ranking anytime soon. They are a small country with limited resources, and they do not have the experience or quality to compete at international level.

However, their status as the world's worst team has at least given them a unique place in football history.
